Once or twice a year, we offer an extended round trip from Quito, Ecuador or Lima, Peru.
/. Quito, Ecuador to Coca, Ecuador is a 2 days scenic drive over the Andes with a stop at Papallacta Hot Spring SPA for an after noon bath next to a snow covered Antisana volcano. After dining on fresh lake trout, the local specialty, we spend the night there. The next morning, after the refreshing hot dip followed by hearty breakfast, we come down through Andean Valleys and jungle covered hills to the town of Coca on Rio Napo. As the day advances the climate changes from mountain fresh to hot tropical. This is an introduction. We use the late afternoon visiting Coca and sleep on the boat.
/. Coca, Ecuador to Iquitos, Peru cruise begins the next day. The next major stop is to explore Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. There we will transfer to "Inti Amaru" canoe to visit Pañiacocha lagoons. There we explore a virgin forest with its wildlife. During the cruise down the Rio Napo we make daily stops to visit native villages or places of interest. One can try to describe this experience but words are lacking to create the corresponding mental image. What you will live through and see during the 7 days of a river cruise to Iquitos can't be described it must be lived. This experience is as unique as climbing Mount Everest, but much less expensive or challenging. It is a trip you must do once in a lifetime.
/. In Iquitos, Peru we will use 2 days to see this extravagant town born in the days of rubber barons. Now, it is a tropical metropolis with 400,000 habitants. The local curiosity is "La Casa de Hierro" build by Eiffel in France then shipped to Peru in 1898.
/. Iquitos, Peru to Pucallpa, Peru is a 981 km cruise up the Rio Marañon then Rio Ucayali. One evening, we stop to visit a Yagua shaman. Then 6 days later we reach Puerto Callao on Yarinacocha lagoon, the lake where play pink river dolphins.
/. Pucallpa, Peru to Lima, Peru is a scenic 3 days drive crossing back the Andes. From Amazon Basin the road climbs through deep valleys into snow covered mountains ranges. On the way, we pass picturesque villages and towns with exotic names like Huánuco, or La Oroya. We stop here and there to enjoy a visit or a sight. For a night we stop in Tingo Maria and Cerro de Pasco. At the end of the third day we arrive to Lima, the capital of Peru.
/. Lima, Peru, with its central square lined by marvels of architecture and famous museums, is worth a 1 day visit. To terminate this wonderful voyage, before you take a flight back to Quito or directly to your home, you must eat at the famous Lima's restaurant: "Costa Verde". It offers a buffet of 487 different seafood plates! It is like 3 weeks of our voyage, unique and not given away, but worth every cent it costs.
